US FEC Electronic Notification System Outage and Hacking Attempt Response

Public Time: October 28, 2026 03:44 KST The Federal Election Commission's FEC electronic filing system was shut down in response to an external hacking attempt. A rep email confirmed by Reuters explained that an outside attacker attempted to break into the system and suspended public service. This led to a transparency issue in reporting political funds as it was nearing the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. The incident showed that the voting equipment had been hacked.
